Goal setting and sticking to tasks is an important part of being a business owner. Regardless of whether you are working as an entrepreneur or with others, you need to be your own "project manager". Use the suggestions in the video to help you find your own methods for setting goals and staying on track with your business.
If you follow the advice provided here, you will be well on your way to starting a successful wellness practice! The first step is to set goals for yourself.
Unfortunately, defining goals is often overlooked when we get bogged down in a "problem" or feel overwhelmed with a task at hand.
Let's go through an example below:
Before we help a client remove a problem or change behavior, it is crucial that we have helped them prepare and create a vision of what they would like to experience when working with you. We need the vision to be "sound" because as a coach, we need to be evaluating and considering the impact these changes will have on them as a whole. For example, taking into consideration where they are coming from, what they have space for, and how to approach these changes with ease.
You, as the coach, are in charge of moving forward with the "technical work" such as creating the meal plan/fitness plan or lifestyle changes that will work long-term. The client can then focus on simply practicing these new behaviors and their potential responses to them.
Just like you need to set goals with a client, you should be setting goals for yourself to work through this course to get your business set up and thriving!
Here are 5 reasons to track your goals:
✓ Gives you direction - How are you going to know where you are going if you haven't solidified a final destination?
✓ Keeps you accountable - There is no better way to see how far you have come than to track your progress!
✓ Gives you a way to track your progress - Tracking progress is so good, that I spoke about it twice!
✓ Helps you get over mental blocks - When you are having rough days it gives you the motivation to see how far you have come. It will also help you know where you need to be spending your time!
✓ Helps you work out what you really want - Business planning isn't all about payments, tech setup, or figuring out the process of business - but about what you REALLY WANT out of it!
Do you want time freedom? Do you want to make $150/hour? Do you want to be on the news?
What is your GOAL!?????
Here are some questions I would like you to think about:
1. What do you want?
2. How will you know when you have it?
3. Where, when, and with whom do you want it?
4. How will this desired outcome affect other aspects of your life?
5. What is stopping you from this desired outcome already?
6. What resources do you already have that will contribute to getting your outcome?
7. What additional resources do you need to get your outcome?
8. How are you going to get there?
To help you remember how to set tangible goals, use the following acronym SMART:
Be Specific - Make your goal clear and defined. This will ensure that you have provided yourself with sufficient direction.
Make Your Goals Measurable - Include precise dates, times, and amounts. If your goal is to have 10 or more clients by May, you need to ensure that you have a way to measure this. Where are you starting, and when will this be done?
Be Sure They Are Actionable - You should have specific actions to complete the necessary tasks outlined in the course. For example, when we speak about banking, this could be your cue to set up a business bank account! More importantly, don't overstretch yourself! If you set a goal that is way out of reach and don't obtain it you will only feel deflated. Try to make sure the goals are consistent with your current availability and don't put too much pressure on yourself to get everything done RIGHT NOW.
Are They Relevant? - These goals should point you in the direction that you would like to go in both your personal life and your career. If you are aligned in this area, you will have no issues developing the focus that you need to move forward.
Make Goals Time-Bound - You must have a deadline. This leads back to making goals measurable. A deadline will give you the fire you need to complete your project.
Assignment: Set Your Goals!
This course moves through the lessons in general order of "tasks" that you need to complete or focus on in your business. By planning out when you will study/complete the tasks related to each lesson, you are more likely to succeed. This will ensure that you accomplish the setup of your business and give you the foundational skills needed to continue the practice of goal setting throughout the life of your business.
Learning how to set goals for this course, not only will help you check off some of the business to-do's, but it will also help you see where you struggle when it comes to the WHY, WHEN, HOW, and WHAT questions of business.
The first assignment is to schedule the dates and times you will complete the study portion and "homework" of the course.
During this process, ask yourself the following questions when planning:
1. What are the tasks that need to get done?
2. With each task, what is the action step?
3. Who / What is going to keep you accountable?
4. Most importantly, why is it important to you?
When answering the WHY portion - perhaps think about two things here:
1. Why is it important for you to complete this course?
2. Why is starting your own business important to you?
Remembering the "why" in both of these questions will help give you the fire to continue on the journey down this path. When you lose a sign of your intention, it can be hard to succeed!
Be sure to write these down as a daily reminder!
